There is no limit to how long an applicant has been out of medical school. We ask that the applicant who has been out of school for a few years be able to document his work experience or scholarly activities since graduation.

There is no minimum USMLE score, other than a passing score. Scores are evaluated as a part of the application, but are not the most important factor considered when inviting applicants for an interview or when ranking a candidate.
Do you have any pre match offer?
Do you sponsor observerships or accept volunteers?
Do you use ERAS and NMRP?
Yes, both services are utilized for review of applications, contacting applicants for interviews, scoring interviews and letters of recommendation, ranking candidates and the match itself. Applications must go through ERAS in order to be considered.
Do you insist on US Clinical experience?
Yes, you must have enough US clinical experience to obtain a letter of reference from a US licensed physician.
Do you prefer candidates having research background?
There isn't any stipulation for research backgrounds. We do, however, make note of applicants who have done research and these applicants may be ranked higher than those without. Research is one aspect of the total application that is evaluated.
What is the application deadline?
The deadline for the 2011 match is November 15, 2010.
Is it possible to get a categorical PGY 2 position after completing a preliminary PGY 1 year?
In the past, our preliminary positions have been designated for residents from other departments or institutions. Vacant categorical PGY 2 and 3 positions are generally filled with residents who are transferring from a categorical position in another surgery program. However, it is possible.
