About Kansas City

Whatever your interests are, Kansas City will let you fulfill them. In this metropolitan area, whose flavor blends the best of a Midwestern town with a cosmopolitan city, there are countless intellectual and recreational things to do.

UMKC and our partner hospitals are within close proximity of such attractions as the world-renowned Plaza shopping and entertainment center, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City River Market, and Union Station. Known best for its barbecue, Kansas City's cuisine spans the globe from American Heartland to Middle-East fare. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy the many collegiate and professional teams in the area, from the Roos Division I teams to professional football, baseball, tennis, and and outdoor soccer. Residents also may take advantage of the Swinney Recreation Center on the UMKC campus, which offers indoor tracks, swimming pool and fitness classes.

Kansas City offers plenty in the world of arts, including the Conservatory of Music and the Missouri Repertory Theatre, both of which are located on the UMKC Volker campus. Other art venues, as well as a variety of information about the Kansas City area, can be found at www.visitkc.com.
